Matthias Wegner

My Name is Matthias Wegner. I am an organizational architect, author, and guide for leaders who are ready to shape their organization as a greenhouse – not as a factory.

The dual roots

My work is shaped by an unusual combination: I hold a PhD in physical chemistry with a focus on biosensing and a minor degree in computer science – and at the same time, I spent seven formative years deeply rooted in the Prayer House Freiburg, an ecumenical Christian community.

This double rootedness – in analytical precision and spiritual depth, in strategic excellence and authentic human connection – influences everything I do.

I do not believe that technology and humanity are opposites. I believe they need each other.

The technical side gives me clarity, structure, and systems thinking.

The human side gives me depth, empathy, and humility.

The Journey here

My professional journey began in 2004 after completing my doctorate. I started as an innovation manager at a patent commercialization agency and simultaneously founded a startup for knowledge management – a PC application I called "Digital Thought Amplifier." It was years ahead of its time. But I lacked the experience to develop a market for it.

In 2006, I joined Testo, where I worked in various roles for over ten years: building the patent office, leading a strategic technology staff department, multi-project controlling, product development processes. I was a "jack of all trades" – always where structures were being created.

But in 2014 came the breaking point. Over 70 hours per week. Burned out. Empty.

I reduced to part-time and found in Gebetshaus Freiburg a place where I didn't have to function, but could simply be. A place where I learned: There is another way.

For seven years I lived "Ora et Labora" – Prayer and Work. At the prayer house, I helped build structures that serve people rather than consume them. At Testo, I worked part-time as a Senior Consultant.

In 2017, through the prayer house's search for space, I met the founders of JobRad. They asked if I could build their PMO and support them in organizational development. Part-time, on the side.

In 2020, I was appointed to executive management – as Chief Technology Officer. I was able to accompany the company's growth from 100 to over 700 employees. Product, technology, IT strategy, organizational architecture.

It was intense. It was instructive. It was a great honor. But in 2025, it became clear: It's time for the next step.

What Drives Me

I am convinced:

People are created to be loved, not to function. And when we shape organizations as greenhouses – spaces that protect, nourish, enable – then something can grow that is greater than ourselves.

I accompany leaders and organizations on this path. Not with tools and methods that one "applies." But with an attitude that one embodies.

I have condensed this attitude in the H.E.A.R. Framework:

  • Humanity & Humility – See people as an end, not as a means
  • Empathy – See the world through the eyes of others
  • Authenticity – Live congruence between words and actions
  • Resilience & Results – Remain effective long-term without losing yourself

I am also currently writing a book about this: "Timelessly Rooted – Leadership as an Act of Listening" (publication in preparation).

The Personal

I've been married for 25 years. We have three children. A dog. A cat. We live in Kirchzarten near Freiburg.

We are a lively, sometimes chaotic, always passionate family. I am an open-minded and curious person. I think in networks. I have no fear of complexity – on the contrary, I find it fascinating.

I cannot remember being bored.

Each day is a new beginning. And I firmly believe: There is a prepared future whose image we cannot yet grasp today – but into which we can take one step further every day.

Let's Talk

If you're ready to shape your organization as a greenhouse. If you sense that leadership is more than technique. If you're ready to start with yourself.

Then let's connect.
